Haunted House Mini Escape

➡️In this Easy Prep No Locks Escape Room, students complete tasks to earn a method of ‘escaping’. The prep for the events with NO LOCKS is minimal– just making copies. No locks or boxes! Teams solve puzzles to “unlock” the code to solve the case.

➡️ This escape is perfect for Halloween or any day in the month of October. It can also be used to encourage teamwork.

How Does a Reading Escape Work?

• Students read a short story. In the story, students are walking through a haunted house event.
• They will complete 4 puzzle tasks. Each puzzle gives the students a secret word.
• After collecting 4 Secret Words, students use a decoder to create a 4-digit number.
• The 4-digit number ends the mystery and The Case of the Haunted House.
• Follow up this breakout with a STEM Challenge!

What is the story?

Students will read a short story about students in the rooms of a haunted house.

• The story and the tasks are all Halloween-related.
• In the story, students find they must have a 4 digit number code to ‘unlock’ the exit door.
• NOTE: The story is fiction. There is no haunted house. Students will not be walking through rooms.
• There is not a locked door.
• The story sets the stage for completing four puzzles and finding a lock code for a ‘pretend’ lock on an exit door.

Puzzle tasks that must be completed are:

• Solve a logic puzzle to determine what five students fear.
• Use words from a paragraph on a word search puzzle.
• Complete rhymes using a word bank of possible words.
• Use an alphabet code to decipher a message.
• Use a Decoder with the 4 secret Words to “escape” this mystery!
