TEAMWORK Challenge #4- I call this one a Platform

TEAMWORK Challenge #4- I call this one a Platform Challenge. Here is how it works and it's genius....⁠
⁠
➡️ Every team begins with a bin of materials and a task card. They complete ONLY what the task says (which is to build a base for a tower.⁠)
➡️ After 5 minutes every team moves to another table and they receive task card 2. They must add the next part to the tower that was started by a different team!⁠
➡️After 5 minutes every team rotates again. We rotate 6 times and in the end, we have platform towers or do we???⁠

Here is what happens... if a team uses the materials incorrectly or uses too much, the next team has to think quickly to repair the damage and continue the building. Sometimes they must dismantle parts in order to have enough materials to do whatever level is next.⁠

THEY LOVE THIS! And I love the discussion we have later about thinking so quickly and improvising as we go. It's real life, folks.⁠

TEAMWORK Challenge #3: In this two-team challenge, one team builds a bridge and the other team builds a tower that must sit on the bridge! Can you think of one problem they encounter?⁠

If the bridge team builds a narrow bridge a wide tower won't sit on it correctly. THIS IS WHY I call these TEAMWORK challenges! ⁠

TEAMWORK Challenge #2- The premise of the challenges I am featuring this week is this: 2 teams get the same materials and each builds part of a structure- they must join the two parts to create a successful device. This one is called the Launchers and Targets project.⁠

TIP: Use pom-poms for your projectile since they cannot hurt if one is accidentally launched at a person. ⁠

to convince students that a large pole would be too heavy to move with only a turning with your fingers I have them pick up a 3-foot tree limb that we have in our lab. It is remarkably heavy and quite eye-opening. They learn quickly that they need a handle to turn the crank of their device. ⁠
